Theatre, Cinema and Television
Hi! My name is Georgina; I live in St Albans, which is situated in the county of Hertfordshire. I am currently taking my A levels- I’m studying Psychology, ICT and Media studies. The media industry is my main interest as I enjoy both watching and visiting the cinema and theatre.
In my spare time my friends and I enjoy visiting the cinema. It enables us all to socialise outside of school in our free time, and going to the cinema is also a great way of meeting new people. I prefer to watch films at the cinema as it is far more interesting than watching them at home! I really like to buy sugared popcorn when I go to the cinema as it makes the whole experience far more enjoyable.
I like to watch many genres of film, such as comedy, romance and action. However Horror is my favourite genre. I love being scared by films, especially films that make you jump. I really liked the Saw films, as they were full of blood and gore! My Favourite film is Wanted; I really enjoy the film as it is full of action and fighting scenes. I also like the actors who play the characters: Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie star in the film, playing their parts exceptionally well.
I also really enjoy visiting the theatre in London! There are hundreds of musicals that can be visited, such as The Lion King, Billy Elliot and Hairspray. Each is highly recommended to be watched. Last summer holidays my family and I went to watch Dirty Dancing; I had such an amazing time! The dancing was excellent and the music was even better. For the final song everyone got up and started dancing; it was really funny to watch! The first time I visited the theatre was three years ago, when I went to watch Billy Elliot with my drama class from school. I had a really nice time as it was a new experience. Ever since then I have loved to watch musicals in London, as I think they’re extremely enjoyable and make a great night out with your friends.

Television is extremely popular amongst teenagers and there are huge amounts of programmes targeted at the age group, some examples could be Glee, The Hills, Family Guy and 90210. All of these examples are hit television programmes in England. Television soaps are also one of the most popular forms of television and have been running from the 1960’s to the current date! Coronation Street and Eastenders are examples of the few that have lasted nearly 50 years.
I really enjoy watching Sitcoms such as Scrubs. The show is set in a hospital and features around seven main characters. I love the comedy aspect and it is very funny, as well as having serious story lines about death and illness. Talent shows gain large amounts of viewers on British television, including The X Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent! I really enjoy watching the auditions to the programmes as there is a mixture of different people, some talented and some not so talented, This makes it the most popular show on television for all ages.
